I have had an interest in photography… it seems, forever.  I don’t specialise in a particular genre.  I love it all: portraits, landscape, cityscape, still-life.  Anything new excites me – new ideas, new places, new people, new experiences and new opportunities to photograph.

I have jagged a few great shots by being in the right place at the right time but to make quality images consistently requires dedicated practice and lots of it.  There is always more to learn about photography and that is exciting; the practice of creativity is addictive.

I have entered a selection of my work in a few competitions with some success.  I have been a finalist in the Olive Cotton Award for excellence in photographic portraiture a couple of times and received the Judge’s Commendation in 2006. I was a finalist in the  National Photographic Portrait Prize 2013 and 2016.

I am particularly interested in images by Robert Mapplethorpe, Edward Weston, Man Ray and Australian photographers Max Dupain, Olive Cotton and Robert McFarlane.

My first camera was a Pentax k1000, which I still have but rarely use.  I am a Canon person now and I love the fast, snap-sharp L-series lenses  – especially my 50mm f1.2.
